Today I got to thinking about this quote: “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.”
My entire life, I’ve struggled with being a perfectionist and being hard on myself. I’ve always had this feeling like, if I can’t do it super well, I can’t do it. I’ve struggled with black and white thinking, where I hold myself to these high standards and get upset when something gets in the way, as it inevitably does.
As January, the month of “resolutions” and “goals” is coming to a close, I’m grateful to have recognized these tendencies in myself, and I’m trying to be more gentle on myself. I recognize that doing something is always better than doing nothing. 1 is always better than 0.
The times where I’ve remembered that what I’ve done is good enough, I’ve been able to feel more accomplished than when I beat myself up over what I "should’ve" done.
So, if you’re looking to start a business, don’t wait around until everything looks perfect. Start now.
If you’re looking to live a healthier life, mentally or physically, don’t wait until you look perfect on the outside. Add in little things each day that will help your vitality.
If you’re looking to cultivate your relationships, don’t wait for the perfect thing to say. Just tell people what they mean to you and spend time enjoying each other.
It’s really simple when you break it down. There’s no need to be perfect when the whole point of life is to grow and change. If we were all perfect, life would be super boring.
Don’t let being perfect get in the way of experiencing life, of following your dreams. Just some lil thoughts that I needed to tell myself personally. Maybe they resonate with you, too.
